About the practice
I’m Dr. Emma Kingdom, a Clinical Psychologist and EMDR therapist supporting adults, parents and families with their emotional wellbeing
I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist and EMDR therapist, and have worked in both NHS mental health services and private practice. As a Clinical Psychologist, I have doctorate-level training providing me with knowledge and skills in supporting people with emotional difficulties, and in offering evidence-based psychological therapy. I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) . I offer both in-person and online private therapy in South London.
If you’re struggling with a transition or life change, feeling dissatisfied or unhappy, feeling stressed or anxious, or need space to think about yourself and your relationships, please consider reaching out. I offer a calm, compassionate space, without pressure or judgement. Over the years I have supported people with issues such as depression (including postnatal), stress and many different forms of anxiety. I have most recently worked in an NHS Early Years team alongside private practice working with parents with under 5s. As such, I am particularly interested in thinking about what feelings can resurface in relation to our own childhood experiences upon transitioning to parenthood.
There is no expectation to have a clear idea of what you want to work on when we first meet, so I hope to start a conversation together about what you’re looking for and how I might be able to support you with that. We will take our time to explore your experiences, concerns and goals, and begin shaping a treatment plan together based on this.
I appreciate that contacting me might feel daunting or overwhelming, and finding the right support can be a bit confusing. We can first have a brief 15 minute chat to see whether I am the right fit for you. If I’m not, I can also offer some other suggestions or thoughts on alternative approaches that might fit.
Who can I help?
I support adults, expectant parents and parents of children up to 5 years of age, helping each person find the right kind of support for their situation.

For adults
I work with adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological challenges. Therapy provides a private space to explore feelings, gain perspective, and develop practical strategies to cope with life’s demands.

For parents and expectant parents
I work with children in an age-appropriate and supportive way, helping them understand and express their thoughts and emotions. Sessions are adapted to each child’s development and can involve parents or carers when helpful.
How can I help?
I provide a calm, collaborative and inclusive space to reflect, explore and make sense of inner struggles. Together, we can explore patterns, build understanding, and move at your pace to create meaningful change.
Therapy is based on established, evidence-based approaches, integrating ideas from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and systemic approaches.
Whether it’s managing emotional difficulties and overwhelm, reflecting on your experience as a parent or navigating relationship challenges and how you relate to others - therapy can help and is tailored to your individual needs.
I work with a range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including:
Anxiety, worry and panic
Support to manage overwhelming stress and anxiety, helping you regain balance and cope more effectively with everyday pressures.
Anger and emotional regulation difficulties
Guidance in understanding and managing strong emotions, developing strategies to respond calmly and constructively.
Transition to parenthood
Space to explore the emotional challenges of becoming a parent, any impact on your relationships and exploration of the type of parent you would like to be.
Trauma, distressing events or post-traumatic stress disorder
Space to process trauma and work towards feeling safer, more connected and being able to move forwards with your life.
Stress and burnout
Work to build self-understanding, challenge negative beliefs, and strengthen confidence in yourself and your abilities.
Low mood and depression
Support to explore underlying causes, develop coping tools, and find ways to improve mood and motivation.
Relationship and communication difficulties
Help to improve communication, understand patterns, and strengthen connection and understanding between partners.
What is the process?
Initial Contact
You’re welcome to get in touch via the contact form or email. I also offer a brief 15-minute introductory call, giving you space to ask questions and see if therapy feels right for you.
Getting to Know You
Our early sessions focus on understanding what’s been going on for you and what you’re hoping for from the therapy space. Therapy is a collaborative process and will be led by you.
Ongoing Therapy
Sessions can take place either online or in person (SE15). Individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy. No two individuals are the same, we can decide on an approach that best supports your hopes and goals for therapy.
Moving Forward
We regularly review progress and adjust as needed. When the time feels right, therapy can gradually come to a close in a thoughtful, supported way.
Feedback
Clients share their experience with Emma:
April 2026
Male, 40s
I am very grateful for the conversations and support Emma has offered. While navigating a difficult time in my life with some significant changes, she helped me pause, gain perspective, and better understand my mental wellbeing, while also encouraging me to be kinder to myself. She has a strong ability to listen attentively and reflect back the core of what has been troubling me, thoughtfully connecting my experiences across multiple conversations over time. Although there is more for me to work towards, I have seen a clear improvement through our sessions and feel less anxious and stressed, thanks to Emma’s patience and compassion.

Female, 30s
I began working with Emma after becoming a new mother and finding myself overwhelmed in my personal life. Through therapy I’ve gained a better understanding of myself and also possible ADHD traits. Emma is kind, empathetic and thoughtful. She has created a safe and open space where I feel able to discuss anything. Over time, I’ve really come to see the benefit of these sessions for my wellbeing.
